Join us for a curator talk featuring “In a State of IF” co-curators Katherine Gressel and Maria Novotny. The talk will explore how art practices can examine infertility through the lens of storytelling, healing and advocacy to challenge cultural, medical and legal narratives around reproduction and family. Artist Ashley January will share insight on her portrait series portraying personal experiences of motherhood, birth trauma and healing. Elizabeth Horn will discuss her “Crib with Medication Boxes,” a mixed media piece highlighting the accumulation of trauma, pain and hope encompassing an unsuccessful IVF treatment. Cha Gutiérrez will talk about the role of reflection, botanical imagery and looking towards a fertile future in her poignant painted work. Local art therapist Brittany Runaas will discuss her mixed media collages and the impact art making had on holding space for emotional processing, reflection, and transformation.
