Voting Information
Make your voice heard! MIAD students are able to vote in upcoming elections with the required documents and by registering to vote. Check MyVote Wisconsin for detailed information about voter registration, what’s on your ballot, polling places, and more.

Student Services
What do I need to register to vote?
I am a Wisconsin Resident:
A valid Wisconsin Driver’s License or Wisconsin Identification Card.
If your local address is not current on your ID, you can update your address with the DMV on their website for free. You do not need to update your physical ID for voting purposes.
*OR*
MIAD Student ID with your legal name and signature, expiring no more than two years after it was issued (request a MIAD ID for voting purposes here.)
~AND~
A copy of a tuition receipt dated within the last nine months containing your current address. You may request a copy of your tuition receipt from Bonnie Murphy, Bursar.
- Please email bonniemurphy@miad.edu or visit RL10 to obtain a copy of your tuition receipt. It only takes a few minutes!
- If needed, students must first change their address with the Registrar’s Office to their local, current address.
I am an out of state student:
MIAD Student ID with your legal name and signature, expiring no more than two years after it was issued (request a MIAD ID for voting purposes here)
~AND~

Where can I register to vote?
Register at your voting site on Election Day!
Available on November 5 from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m.
You may register and vote at your voting site on Election Day. Keep scrolling for voting sites for students living in MIAD housing, or locate your voting site using your current home address.
Online!
Available through October 16
If you have a Wisconsin drivers license or Wisconsin state identification card, you may register to vote online and do not need to mail in any additional documentation.
Step 1: Confirm your address is updated or make address updates with the DMV on their website. Online updates are free and you do not need to update your physical ID for voting purposes. Name changes cannot be completed online with the DMV; you must go to a DMV office in order to complete the name change.
Step 2: Go to MyVote in order to update your voter registration. Your voter registration information is not updated until you go to MyVote and complete the registration process.
By Mail!
Registrations by mail must be postmarked by October 16.
Download and print the Voter Registration Application. Once complete, you may mail the application along with a copy of your proof of residence document to:

Register in person at any Milwaukee Public Library!

Staff at each of the Milwaukee Public Libraries can assist you with completing the voter registration process during regular hours of operation. View a list of Milwaukee Public Library branches. Registration at libraries closes 20 days before each election (October 16th).
Register at any Early Voting Center!
Available October 22 through November 3.
When Early Voting Centers are in operation, you can only register at those centers through the Friday before each election (per state law, we cannot accept voter registrations at our City Hall office during Early Voting). Locate a convenient Early Voting Center!
What do I need to bring with me when I vote?
Everything you needed to register (yes, even if you already registered)!
- Your valid identification (Wisconsin Drivers License, State ID, Passport, MIAD ID, etc)
- If using your MIAD ID, a copy of your tuition statement

Where do I vote?
Absentee
All voters in Wisconsin can request an absentee ballot be mailed to them for any reason. Voters must be registered before they can request an absentee ballot. To request an absentee ballot on MyVote.wi.gov click here. You must provide a photo ID with your absentee ballot request. More information on photo ID can be found here.
In-Person
In-Person Early Voting (Available October 22nd through November 3rd)
